Win One of Five Free iPhones With Profy This Summer

Svetlana Gladkova,

iPhone is big even though it has not been released yet. But it will be released soon (June, 29 in case you have not heard this date yet) and I guess it will be even bigger when it is actually available. Besides, iPhone is the most Web 2.0-ish gadget we have heard of recently. Profy is always willing to give our readers the best of Web 2.0. And here is our next move in this direction. This summer you will have a chance to get your very own iPhone absolutely for free (4 Gb memory model normally priced at $499).

How? It really is absolutely simple and I do hope many of our loyal readers will enter our competition and try to win one of five iPhones Profy will give away. Why such a generosity? Because we really believe that passionate people deserve the best of rewards - and iPhone seems like a gadget our Profy readers will be very happy to have. So what should you do now to be among the first owners of iPhone? First of all, make sure you will be able to get and use your prize. In the US it means that you need to be willing to switch to AT&T unless you are the carrier's subscriber already. In other countries the situation is more complicated and you will need to find out if iPhones will be sold in your country by the time the competition is over on September 9 so that we could buy and send one to you.

And here comes the competition itself. It is actually as simple as guest blogging - something many bloggers often do absolutely for free without expecting any reward but additional exposure. So simply write a guest post about Web 2.0 (news, commentary, tips, ranting about your personal Web 2.0 experience, etc.) for Profy and send it to iphone@profy.com. If your post is found Profy-worthy and is qualified for the competition, we will let you know when the post is published. So you are in the competition!

Now how will we choose the winner? In order to be as unbiased as possible we will only use actual facts to determine the winner: the post that provokes the most animated discussion and thus gets the highest number of comments within the first 2 weeks after its publication will win. In the event two (or more) posts from guest authors will get the equal number of comments we will held a poll for our readers to vote on the post they think is the best. Just a few notes:

  • Trackbacks are counted as comments and are included in the total number of comments.
  • We will watch IPs of commentator carefully so don't try to cheat - if we see the same IPs for different user names, the post will be disqualified. So please, do not try to talk to yourself.
  • When sending a guest post to iphone@profy.com do not forget to include tags for the post, trackback URLs if you link to another blog's posts, images (if required) and a brief description of yourself.
  • If you choose to spam every single person on Earth to attract readers' attention to your candidate post and we receive complaints about such behavior (or are otherwise informed of your illegal promotional behavior) the post will be disqualified. We believe fair competition should be fair!

The first round of the competition starts today, June 18, 2007 and submitted posts will be published until Sunday, July 1 (on July 2nd the next round of the competition will begin for another iPhone). For those posts published on Sunday, July 1 the competition will be over exactly 2 weeks after the publication date, i.e. on Sunday, July 15. Thus on Monday, July 16 we will name our first winner (unless a poll is needed to determine the winner). Two weeks later (July 30) we will announce the winner in the second round of the competition. And so on until September 9th, when we name the winner in the final, fifth round of the Profy iPhone competition.

So start now, enter the competition and spread the word - make people talk and get your very own iPhone for free!

  • so, let me get this straight, you want me to spend my valuable time and talent writing content for you, only for a chance to win? stupid. dyofdw

  • You could spend your valuable time and talent writing or doing anything else earning money to buy the iPhone yourself. Or you can write a good post and engage in a discussion here to get the iPhone for free. Anyway it is up to you, many people were really interested in the chance.

  • I rather not participate either. Thanks though.

  • What a neat idea for a contest. I will definitely submit an entry (if I can get off my lazy blogging ass).

  • Kris, thanks for your enthusiasm, I will be looking forward to your post.

  • LMAO this is the most fakest contest I have ever seen. first off, iphone sales are only limited for 1 per person.

    LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOW ARE YOU GOING TO GET 5 WHEN YOU DON’T EVEN GOT A PICTURE OF ONE?!?!?!!?!

  • That’s too bitchy :)
We are not going to buy any iPhones for ourselves (BTW, I am based in Russia and I have no idea when iPhone will be available here), we are going to buy them via AT&T virtual store for the names of the people who win them.
And you are right, we do not have any iPhone here but I will ask our first winner to send me a picture with iPhone to post here on Profy. I hope that will reassure you.

  • I don’t know. There has to be an easier way to get an iPhone.

  • Svetlana, how many ppl do you have for this contest so far? I think I might be interested now…

Btw, I’m in Canada so I don’t know when it’s gonna be released here too. I suppose gift cards work lol :)

  • Sure, there is an easier way to get an iPhone - buy one :) But it takes paying money unfortunately.

Mark: You still have one day to enter the first round of the contest (if you submit an article on Sunday) - the first round is not really populated, we have only published one guest post so far. I guess when people actually see a winner there will be a much more fierce competition in the subsequent 4 rounds of the contest.
And since a winner may be in Canada (or any other country where iPhone will definitely arrive but the date is not determined yet, I think a gift card (Apple store, right?) will work perfectly fine. So go ahead, send the post over :)

  • Ok Svetlana, I’ll get on that asap (gotta go for a party now) and will email it to there by the end of tomorrow. Let’s hope it goes well…I soooo want an iPhone lol.

  • Well if I did win one, I’d probably have nothing better to do with it than stare at it. I don’t think our mobile operators in Slovenia will support the iPhone any time soon, and if they will, it’ll probably be Vodafone and/or T-Mobile - the two operators i hate most.

  • Andrej, sooner or later iPhone will arrive to Slovenia and at least one advantage we will have is that the initial agiotage around iPhone will be over. By “we” I include myself because I have no idea when iPhone will be available in Russia. Though honestly the only person I know in Russia who is actually willing to buy the gadget as soon as it’s available is my own husband who is an avid early adapter of all new gadgets. I guess only a tiny percentage of the population in Russia actually knows iPhone exists at all.
But at least here we never have to buy a phone WITH a carrier contract - we always buy phones and contracts separately here. That’s another advantage for us.

BTW, if you want to participate in the contest and eventually win, we can always agree on buying iPhone for you when it is available in Slovenia or you could use it as a gift for some US friend maybe. Think of it :)

  • OOooh,

“could use it as a gift for some US friend”

    I’m in! :)

Anyway that was my mistake, in Slovenia we also never have to buy a phone with a carrier contract. But, what use does it make if I have an iPhone and I can only call with it? Bah.

I’m in anyway :) , an iPhone is an iPhone even if it’s broken, it’s shinny and I want one!

  • Great, I’ll be looking forward to a guest entry from you :)

  • This is probably the best chance I have. I’m going for it =)

  • Go ahead, send your entry :)

  • Ill send mines in..hope its good enough
